Important Safety Notice for Hats in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/988 on General Product Safety (GPSR)

This is a targeted safety notice for the proper and safe use of hats (straw, felt, cotton, synthetic, wide-brimmed, with shaping wire, with chin strap, with decorations). As they may contain small parts, cords, wire reinforcements, and flammable materials and may affect the field of vision and hearing, please follow the instructions below.

Basic Safety and Handling Principles

• Keep out of reach of children: Removable decorations (brooches, feathers, beads) and small parts pose a choking hazard; the product is not a toy.
• Cords and straps: Long chin straps can cause strangulation; do not tighten tightly and do not use hats with cords during sleep or unsupervised play.
• Fire and heat: Straw, felt, and synthetic materials are flammable; keep away from flames, sparks, and hot surfaces.
• Field of vision: Excessively wide brims may restrict view; do not obstruct safe vision when walking or operating non-motorized vehicles.
• Safety gear: The hat does not replace a helmet or other PPE; do not wear under a helmet unless permitted by the helmet manufacturer.

Proper and Safe Use

• Size and fit: Choose a size that fits snugly without excessive pressure; in windy conditions use the strap or remove the hat.
• Decorations and pins: Handle brooches and pins carefully when attaching; point sharp elements away from skin and eyes.
• Shaping wire: Bend only within reasonable limits; damaged wire may create sharp edges.
• UV and weather: The brim provides only limited protection; use sunscreen and sunglasses in the sun. Allow to dry thoroughly if wet.

Cleaning, Maintenance, and Storage

• Cleaning by material: Clean straw with a dry brush; gently brush or spot clean felt and fabric; do not use aggressive cleaners or soak for long periods.
• Drying and shaping: Air dry away from direct heat and sunlight; shape gently, do not forcibly crease the brim.
• Parts inspection: Regularly check seams, bands, straps, and decoration attachments; repair or replace loose or sharp parts.
• Storage: Store on a stand or in a box to avoid deformation; protect from moisture and pests.

Specific Health Warnings

• Allergies and sensitive skin: Wool, adhesives, dyes, and metal parts (e.g., nickel) may cause reactions; discontinue use if redness or itching occurs.
• Hygiene: After sweating, dry and clean the sweatband and skin contact areas; prolonged moisture may cause irritation.

Disposal

• Sorted waste: Deliver textile/straw to textile collection; separate metal and plastic components according to local regulations. Wrap sharp needles and pins to prevent injury to waste handlers.

Incidents and Contact

• In case of an incident (strangulation by strap, allergic reaction, injury from sharp part) immediately stop using the product and seek medical help if necessary. Keep the product and proof of purchase for complaint processing.
